I have a lot of problems with thisltles on grassland, both tame and native. What do you think are the best ways to control it?

I'm not a grass guy but i can tell you this. Thistle is senative to the red light in the spectrum. If it senses enough red light is getting through then it will start to grow, this is why it is more of a probem sense the semi leafless peas. More light is getting through and promoting growth. I'll do some checking and see what i can find out.

That is an interesting bit of information with the light. the weed is so hard to control except with costly chemicals. Rhizomes spread so quickly and even a tiny section left undamaged can sprout a new plant.
